This were some of the key advice the teen received

RitaFaye88 NTA but stop letting that man touch your paychecks.
Objective-Pound2185 NTA. Also your stepdad should not be touching your paycheques. They should be automatically depositied to your chequing account and then you should be the one to decide what percent goes into your savings. The second you turn 18 you need to open a new account at a location neither your mom or stepdad have ever banked at, ensure it is fully documented that they are to have no access at all what so ever to your account, and set up so your pay goes directly to that account and h

PieceFit Your mom needs to address this whole "I'm not your dad" comment. Ok...if you're not my dad then you're not controlling my finances. Is he usually like this?

Fullm3taluk NTA, Why are you not getting your own paychecks? He's shouting at you because he knows he f ed up and you should tell him that.

SparrowCadwallader NTA - I'm curious if you've seen the balance of the savings. At 17 most banks allow you to open an account. You just need an adult co-owner. Go open one with your mom and put all you money there. When he asks why, "so that when I need my money, you don't have to worry about me bothering you."

Warm-Statistician545 No, NTA, not even a little Sounds like he was mad about something else and took it out on you somewhat. He's already saving half of everything you make. You could spend That too if you wanted. So I would say you're doing a pretty good job with your money. Sorry he hurt your feelings. That kinda sks.

Secure_Two_8133 Does mom's story about stepdad's phone seem fishy to you as well? My inital thought was that they were enjoying some private time together when OP rang stepdad's phone, hence mom having an excuse for stepdad not answering loaded and ready to go when OP rang her In OP's situation, I think a completely independent account that neither of them have knowledge of, or access to, or can trace through the old bank account would be the first option to try.

If he can't get that option right away, he should celebrate his birthday by doing this first thing, and locking down his credit.before they saddle him with a huge student debt. He should get his name removed from any accounts he knows his parents have "for him". It looks like mom might stand with her husband on this.

PNW_MYOG NTA, just apologize and say that he's always terrific about picking up calls, and you were starting to think he'd gotten into a car accident. Maybe get a different arrangement with your transfers. Make a budget, ensure your bus pass is always included, plus one bus pass float, then transfer an additional x each month, letting the extra grow. Bring him your budget. An auto transfer that is the same every week or month is much easier to set up.

fpuk69 Nevermind that, why is your stepdad handling your paychecks?
